Ms Walsh,
I have a feeling that you are going to be a very good teacher for me this year.
How to use this site
Pages
The pages listed in the margin are static, meaning they include information that is relatively non-changing. Simply click on the topic you are interested in.
Categories
The categories list is to help guide you to all of the posts under that topic. When you scroll to the post you are interested in, click the title and the entire post will become viewable. This will help you find all of the lesson posts for your textbook, for instance.
Tags
The tags listed in the margin help you go directly to the exact post or type of post you need, rather than a much longer string of posts. You may use this to go directly to a text’s post, by typing in the chapter number and lesson number, R1-3, for instance, means the red book (Course 1), chapter 1, lesson 3. B2-5 means the blue book (Course 2), chapter 2, lesson 5; and G7-4 means the green book (Pre-Algebra), chapter 7, lesson 4.
Homework Help
For help on homework, or understanding a lesson better, either look in the categories section and click on your course.
2009-2010 Period 1, 2, 4, 6, 7
Regular math classes (using the red book) are listed under Course 1.
2009-2010 Period 5
Advanced Math classes (using the blue book) are listed under Course 2; or click on the tag for your chapter and lesson. “B1-3″ is the post for chapter 1, lesson 3.
2009–2010 Pre-Algebra classes are not being offered to the 6th grade student this year.
In many posts, there will be various aids to help you. Simply click on a slideshare PowerPoint presentation, the arrow in the middle of a sketchcast to play, the arrow in the middle of a YouTube video to play or click on a link to a handout which you can then print from your computer. If I originated the material, my username is taleese, or walshmath, or mswalsh and you can download or embed each presentation from the sites listed. Wherever possible, credit is given to the originator of the work.
Tutoring
If your child is not doing as well as you would wish, it could be that extra help outside of school is an option you would like to pursue. Please remember that the math classes offered on our team are designed to cater to the highest performing students, and the pace and level of instruction reflect this focus. Due to financial implications for a school and/or district, I will not recommend tutoring for any student; however, my personal belief system is that tutoring can not hurt anyone and is only helpful to each and every student no matter their level of proficiency.
Options I am aware of:
Free tutoring was offered at IRSC last year and possibly this year(?). Click on the “tutoring” tag, or the page “free tutoring” for full information.
Huntington Learning Center sponsors many school events at SOMS as a form of advertising and would appreciate your business.
Sylvan is another tutoring center.
www.nutshellmath.com offers online assistance directly geared to a student’s text.
Free online tutoring is available at www.mathwithLarry.com
Many websites on the internet explain math concepts and can be found through google. Often with no charge.
YouTube and TeacherTube offer videos for public viewing. Simply type the target skill (found in italics at the top of each workbook page) into the search box for the site. Many teachers have lessons available for free on these sites:
PowerPoints, Handouts, and Texts
www.authorstream.com
www.scribd.com
www.slideshare.net

Glad to hear it helped you a. I had a great 3 day weekend. That extra day off sure was nice, wasn’t it? I have a little dog, Bella, that I groomed (or it would be better to say shaved) with my daughter’s help. I also have a dog, named Pi, after the number in math.
Hi Mrs.Walsh, I went on the Hoodamath and the Buzzmath websites. These websites were the bomb. I didn’t realize that math could be so much fun, YOU ROCK!!!

Hello this is P N’s mom and I think your website is going to be perfect from my son. This will be a good year for Nathan in math class. Now about hooda math and buzz math I really see no difference just the way it looks. But i think this website and hooda math and buzz math they should all help.

Well, N. This is what I notice about you. You always have your homework done, you are always prepared in class, and you always try. So, I absolutely believe you will be successful in math, because those are the ingredients to do great! Thanks for working so hard for me. I’m glad to see you found the blog, too. I hope you like it.
