Just learned about this game on www.twitter.com

A new website, www.buzzmath.com is in beta mode.

It looks pretty cool. You can go right to their website and check it out, or you can view some of their videos on youtube.com

What is it?
An internet game that’s all about fun first and math.

buzz_math

There is a free family edition, and a paid version too. A school version is also available, but our school probably will not be able to afford it.

buzz_math_family_pricing

What’s great about it is that you can play it anywhere with internet access.

Anyone who checks it out and comments about it here on this post will get extra credit points in math for a grade of 100. Parents are welcome to put in their two cents worth (and I’ll give your child an extra 100 points.)

All you have to do is the following:
1. Say what you liked about it,
2. What could be improved to make it better, and
3. Rate it from 1 to 10.
4. Are the extra features worth the family price of $20/month, or is it better to stick with the free package in your opinion?
5. If you didn’t think $20 was fair, what would be a fair price to charge?

Note: This blog reaches 169 middle school students daily.

Happy buzzmath-ing.

Hi Ms. Walsh, I checked out the http://www.buzzmath.com website this morning and signed up for the free parent demo account and it looks like it’ll be lots of fun for JC (and the rest of the family too!) I’ll talk to JC about it after I get home from work tonight. I’m sure he’s going to love it! As for me, I would rate the free demo account an 8. JC can try it out later tonight and rate it at that time. The extra features look good for the fair fee of $20; which we will probably sign up for after JC tries the free demo out first. Thanks for telling us about this.

TC

You’re welcome. I hope it is a fantastic site. I think trying it first is a great idea.

This is K from your first period class. I checked out Buzzmath.com and thought that is was pretty cool. I liked that it reviewed what I have already learned from you. I don’t really think anything could be improved. On a scale of 1-10, I would say it is a 9. I don’t think I will be paying for the monthly fee, because it allows me to do some for free. I think $20 a year a acceptable.

See you in class!
K C

P.S. My mom is here with me checking this site out also.

I am K C’s mom and checked out the site this morning with her. I think its a great site. Anything that can get my children doing Math outside their homework is a plus by me. I don’t know if I would pay for it though, because there are so many more sites that are free. But using the demo, I would rate is a 9 or 10.

Ms.Walsh

Hi Ms.Walsh it is me M from your 7th period. I think the website is great! Once I signed up and played a game I totally forgot I was accually doing math! thanks so much for finding
this amazing website for us!!!!

Ms.Walsh

My daughter Morgan got home so excited to be able to set up an account on http://www.mathbuzz.com
I think it is very merciful of you to give them a free 100 points just for playing a game. Morgan is also thrilled with this great website that teaches you math while playing a game…. again thank you for your time

sincerely,
K J

I went on the website, and i think it is averagely fun and its pretty much the same thig as Funbrain.com. I think that it could be improved by hooking in a microphone whichyou can buy from walmart for your computer, and say the answer for the question you are on and it respond which would make it more exciting. i think the rank is an 8 and a half. I think that its not worth it because like i said it pretty much the same as funbrain.com so why not go to funbrain.com its free there for everything. I think that it should be free and they could get alot more people to play then after a while, theycould bring the price to 2 dollars and keep it there.

I checked out the site with both of my girls. I really like the site since it seems fun for the kids. I am with KC’s mom – anything to get the kids to do math that is fun. I also liked that it was multigrade so as they advance in the program, they can also advance in the “grade level”. It seems very comprehensive and allows for many different math skills. With such a cursory review, I am not sure what I would improve upon. I would rate the site an 8 for now. I don’t think it is worth $20 a month where there are so many websites and programs out there. I think a better deal would be a one time purchase price so you have the program forever. I would have to shop around to determine how much I would be willing to pay for such a program. I will, however, strongly encourage my girls to use this program daily. Practice is the key to math!

I just for got to say that I told my dad about the website and showed him it and he agreed that it should be about a 9 because its involving computers and he knows i like to play on computers!

nathan comment
i liked that it was very challenging and a very fun games.if the paying version was cheaper.i give it the rate of 10.i think the price should be 10$ a month beacause of the economy.parent comment I think that this is a great tool for learning math and also fun to play. I think this game is a 10. I think that if the price was around $10 per month it makes it a little more affordable.

I went on the site, it was fun! Even when I got a question wrong it shows you how to answer the promblem. It gives you a second chance on the question but it gives you a different question of course. When I went to a section that I did not know, it does not teach you though. It just gives a question and expects an answer. You have to figure it out yourself. On that, I would rate this site an 5 or 6. I think it is worth the free version but not to pay for it.

From Twin A&B mom: A is right. I cannot find any instruction on this website. After I discovered that, I will rate this site a 4 to 5. Great questions, but no instruction that I can find. Also, in the “lab” he tells you to click on the BuzzPorter, but then nothing happens???

I thought it was cool. Thanks for telling me about the website.I would rate the math website a number 7.

i really liked it it seems fun. I’d say for a way to improve it is to put more animation on it. And i would put a 9.5 for my score. i think its better to stick with the free package. i thought 20$ wasn’t the best price for people to go on it id say it to be like 17$ but thats just my appinnin.

N G. 5th period class

This is NG’s mom, I checked out the site and it looks great! I don’t feel there needs to be any improvements made, and I would rate the site a 10. The extra features are nice for $20.00, and I think it is worth it for the whole family.

Great critique of the site Twin A and B and mom. I learned more about it just from your input. You would make very good professional reviewers of books, films, or products. Thanks

I agree, there probably can’t be too much animation.

Eventually, they hope to have games for every k-12 level.

Thanks! Twin B did want to be a reporter when she grew up. I know you are not a wrighting teacher but do you think it could happen?

Absolutely, you may not know this, but my parents have written articles for magazines. I even wrote an article and sold it to a magazine, because my mom and dad kept telling me I should give it a go. In fact, I think now would be a great time for Twin B to start. We may have a school paper (?), but she could submit articles or letters to the editor of our local papers. She could even start her own blog and write about the stories or do reviews that interest her now. Blogs are free, so that’s a great place to begin. I’m all for it. There are magazines that accept submissions from people of all ages as well. You can find them in a book published annually called Writers’ Market 2009 (a new one comes out every year). You can buy it at a bookstore or check it out at the library.

Michael and I tried the website and liked it a lot. We used the section on prime factorization but had problems entering the numbers in the proper format, it kept tell us we were wrong but the answer was correct. It didn’t seem to like whatever we tried. It did give the correct answers so we knew if Michael’s was correct. I think $20 is a little high $10 might be about right.

That is frustrating. I’ll twitter them and let them know you ran into that problem. Maybe they’ll fix it.

You should check out this new free math games site: HoodaMath.com

That’s very cool what your parents did and it is also cool that magazines do that sort of stuff! You encourage me a lot.

Only because I believe you can do it!

I did check this site out, it’s free (always good) and I liked it. Pretty neat. Tell me what you think, Talons team.

I liked buzzmath. It had animation and all that but if they put like an adventure in there i would be playing everyday and spend the money! XD :D

1. Say what you liked about it:
it was fun with very helpful games.
2. What could be improved to make it better:
nothing it was helpful. There was nothing that I would change.
3. Rate it from 1 to 10. I would rate it a number 8.
4. Are the extra features worth the family price of $20/month, or is it better to stick with the free package in your opinion? I think that it would be better to have the free packaging. I do not think that the extra features are worth the twenty dollars. I do not think people would go on the site every day.
5. If you didn’t think $20 was fair, what would be a fair price to charge? If I had to charge anything, I would charge half that price 10.00 a month.

Hi. This is S’s mother and we worked on this answering these questions together. It was difficult to figure out how to move around on the blog as both S and I do not have much experience with blogs. I am very excited about all that you offer and we both look forward to learning more and exploring all of the options.

Thank you
Mrs. C.

Thanks for being willing to investigate. Mr. Barrish and Mr. Babcock also have blogs. I hope you’ll find it extremely helpful as you become more familiar with it. You may even want to start a blog of your own someday!

D – what i like about the buzzmath game was it helped me understand greater than and less than and maby other problems i had troubles with.

Dad – I thought the site was good. I think it could have an example already posted to help without having to got an example, but overall it was good. I think it will help D with his math.

did our comment post?

The comments do get sent immediately, but I put an approval hold on them so that no one would spam the site with inappropriate comments. Also, I try to delete any identifying names, etc. because our school district wants all children protected from all the “ne’er do wells” running about.

1#Ms.Walsh buzzmath is such a fun site.2#If I could improve it I’d put more questions.3#I rate this game on a scale of 8.4#NO the website should be FREE.5#The price range should be $5.00 a month. But in all I loved it!!! :]

i loved the game
it was awesome
i didn’t even realize that i was doing math.
i didnt think math can be so much fun

Hi Ms. Walsh, my son A and I enjoyed playing the BuzzMath game. It really teaches children math but in a fun way. This website was def. educational. So thanks for giving us this site. My son enjoys playing it.

1. i liked the way it was explaned
2. in could be a litle funer
3. 7.
4. i think it is fair if you NEED CREDIT
5. i think 20 is fair

hello Ms. Walsh, This is Q C’s dad It’s about 10:30 pm and I just got off the Buzzmath website, that is very cool for family. I find myself kind of addicted to it after playing for awhile. I would rate the site about a 9 because of the different things you can play. I have to be honest though I do think $20.00 is a bit pricey, I would think most people with the economy the way it is now would be more comfortable with maybe the $10.00 range. Thanks for the edufun i call it !!
