Important FCAT Information

The 6th graders will take the 6th grade Reading and Math FCAT next week. All 6th graders will take the 6th grade math FCAT no matter what math course they are enrolled in.

The Reading FCAT will be two 60 minute sessions on Tuesday.

The Math FCAT will be two 60 minute sessions on Wednesday.

FREE BREAKFAST is available on Tuesday and Wednesday. Snacks will be provided during a fifteen minute break between sessions, thanks to the PTO.

BEGINNING NOW: I recommend you ensure your child is receiving a good night’s sleep and is well rested. Has a good healthy breakfast to start the day.

NO ELECTRONIC DEVICES are allowed during the FCAT on your child’s person. IF A CHILD IS FOUND TO HAVE AN ELECTRONIC DEVICE ON THEIR PERSON DURING THE FCAT that test is INVALIDATED and can not be scored. This is a serious occurrence to the STATE OF FLORIDA.

Please have your child leave all unnecessary electronic devices at home on Tuesday and Wednesday. NO WATCHES with calculators, or phones with calculators or internet access are allowed on your child’s person.

Electronic devices brought to school must be surrendered and removed during the testing period.

IF your child begins a session and leaves during the session of testing, they will NOT BE ALLOWED to complete that session test. Therefore, it is advised that doctor’s appointments either be scheduled at a different time or your child does NOT begin the session at all, so they can take the test for the entire time allotment during a makeup period.

BATHROOMS: During the two one hour sessions each testing day, there is no going to the bathroom or getting a drink, or movement in the classroom or around campus. All bathroom visits should occur during the break, before or after the session of testing. (Children in danger of getting sick or having an accident are allowed to leave the testing room-emergency only.)

If your child is sick the day of the test, because they are genuinely sick (running a fever, have the flu, have a temperature, are throwing up, are contagious); it is better to have them stay home and then take the FCAT during the makeup period. Children who are genuinely sick are unlikely to do as well on testing as when they are well.

If they are sick because they are nervous, it is better to have them come to school, take the test, and get it over with.

Information on the FCAT is available on the State of Florida’s Department of Education website. There is a link to that site on the sidebar of this blog.
